Minimization and Management of Refurbishment and Renovation Waste in Hong Kong
Description
In 2017 in Hong Kong, the construction industry disposed of an average of about 4,000 tonnes of construction and demolition waste at landfills per day. 10 to 20% of the waste comes from refurbishment and renovation of existing buildings.
In this webinar Dr. Ann YU (PI), and Mr Kelvin S.H MOK, run through their detailed investigation on the processes of refurbishment and renovation projects to identify the difficulties in reducing waste generated in Hong Kong. After consultation with building professionals, building contractors, recycling contractors, scholars and government officials in two focus group meetings, six proposals were refined and recommended to the Government for promoting effective refurbishment/renovation waste management.
