Objectives
At the end of the Certificate in Site Management Course, successful participants should be able to:

- Manage contractual and legal responsibilities to ensure compliance

Contents
Unit 1 – Contractual and Legal Responsibilities within a Construction Environment
- Evaluate the importance of legislation, and how assuring standards can improve design work in the planning stage.
- Apply principles of compliance under a construction project.
- Explain the key processes which deal with claims and variance – a crucial transferable skill which translates into other roles within the built environment critically.
- The application of Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations.
Unit 2 – Managing the Quality of Construction Works
- Gain an understanding of quality systems, procedures and standards within the construction site.
- Learn project management essentials and how to optimise team functionality on-site.
- Make use of recycling, recovered materials and quality control to exceed economic and ecological goals.
Unit 3 – Managing Health, Safety and Wellbeing in Construction Works
- Health & Safety Wellbeing Regulations, legislations and working practices.
- Understand how to utilise systems to monitor and control the quality of the work.
- Solve defined problems and evaluate solutions.
Suitability
This course is specifically for entry to and progression in the construction industry.
Candidates should have at least ONE of the following to start the course:
- Three years’ experience on site with some general management responsibility
- Completion of a NVQ level 3 in a relevant industry subject
- Completion of CIOB Level 3 Diploma in Site Supervisory Studies
Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
The Level 4 Certificate and the Diploma in Construction Site Management provide exemption for either the White:
- Academically Qualified Persons CSCS card; or
- Professionally Qualified Persons CSCS card.
depending on industry qualifications and/or professional body membership.
CSCS cards demonstrate the cardholder in addition to holding a certified specialist skill for the job they do and also possess an appropriate health, safety and environmental test attained within the past 2 years.
Whilst not a legal requirement; the vast majority of contractors require that all personnel hold an appropriate CSCS card at the right level before they are allowed on site. For more current information visit: www.cscs.uk.com.

Assessment
You will have to do one assignment for each of the three units. Assignments are graded pass, merit and distinction and a certificate will be issued at the end of the course. An overall grade will be issued upon completion of all three units. We recommend on completion of the Site Management course delegates should progress onto the Diploma in Construction Site Management course.
Course Leader
Dr Michael Hammond
Dr. Hammond FCIOB started his career as a plumber before moving on to train as a quantity surveyor, working with a number of large consultancies including Turner and Townsend. In the early 1990s, he moved into education, working initially at Wigan and Leigh College before moving to Dudley College, where he became head of construction. In 2005, he moved to SummitSkills Ltd the Sector Skills Council for the Building Services Engineering Sector as Head of Research.
Dr. Hammond has published a book on Skills Policy in the UK and a number of academic papers. In addition, he has also published numerous reports for Government Departments, Devolved Government, and numerous agencies around the UK Currently Mike is Director of his own Research and Education Company, offering bespoke research and educational services to public and private sector clients. Mike is also currently an examiner for the CIOB on the Chartered Management Programme.
