We are now familiar with the knowledge that the built environment is a 40% contributor to the climate and ecological crisis we witness unfolding around us.  Many organisations, institutions, local authorities and countries have made emergency declarations and commitments to be carbon zero.  Here in the UK, sustainability and climate change are receiving increasing headline focus as we prepare for COP26 in Glasgow this November.

Against this backdrop, Martin Brown, passionate voice for regenerative sustainability and innovation, advocate for the Living Building Challenge, Vice President Living Futures Europe and Vice Chair of RESTORE, explores how design and construction can contribute to the climate and ecological emergency and become 40% of the solution rather than remaining 40% of the problem.  He explores the shift in approaches that will be necessary and frameworks that allow us to move to a built environment that is not only sustainable but socially just, ecologically robust and culturally rich.
