Overview
Overview of Contract Awareness & Awareness for Contractors
The ability to administer contract awareness is a fundamental part of any construction project, as most contractors will encounter contractual challenges and issues at some point. Effective contract administration ensures that obligations are met, risks are managed, and disputes are minimised. To achieve this, contractors need a solid understanding of contract provisions and the practical skills required for accurate record keeping throughout a given project lifecycle. This includes maintaining detailed documentation related to the scope of works, variations, timelines, and the client’s key objectives.
Contractors must be able to utilise contract awareness, including to interpret and apply the provisions of the building contract to the specific circumstances of a given project, ensuring compliance and safeguarding both commercial and legal interests. Strong contract administration not only supports project delivery but also underpins successful relationships between all parties involved.
This course is designed to simplify those contractual issues, make them understandable and accessible for the staff of the contractor, and to provide best practice in contract awareness for any given project. The course will use JCT contracts as a backdrop, however, the good practices discussed are industry standard and the principles can be applied to most other forms of contract.
You will leave the course with detailed knowledge of client needs, common contract awareness issues that you may face, and you will be better equipped to recognise potential issues and work on preventative techniques, leading to successful contract fulfilment.
Remember, knowing how best to protect your company could be the difference between success and failure of the project.
